Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer season and a return to “normal” gatherings.
The Memorial Day holiday is about remembering. It’s about remembering those who have served our country. This year will also be about remembering what the last 14 months have been like for the world. Memorial Day will be the first holiday of 2021 without most of the pandemic restrictions. That means parades, concerts and family get togethers will soon look like they did prior to the COVID-19 outbreak.
We encourage people to move forward, while being wise to still keep others safe. If you’re sick, stay home and get well. Continue to wash your hands frequently AND don’t be shocked if there are some who still want to wear a mask and stand at a distance.
Memorial Day Facts
Did You Know: Memorial Day is Monday, May 31, 2021. The holiday began after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans established it. It was started as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of those who died in the war. By the 20th Century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions merged and Memorial Day honored all Americans killed while in military service.
